German Christmas Traditions Scavenger Hunt

Learn about the Christmas traditions in Germany with this fun scavenger hunt. There are 10 English language texts, each on a different aspect of German Christmas customs, which can be hung up around the classroom. Each text also has a question; however, the answers to the questions are found in a different text, so pupils need to move around the room, reading the information and searching for the answers. The answers become the Code Words, which are recorded in the pupils’ answer grids. Once the grid is complete, pupils unscramble the letters in the shaded boxes to find the Mystery Word. The first pupils to find the Mystery Word are the winners. Pupils can play individually, in pairs or small groups. This resource contains: 10 texts to stick up around the classroom Directions for pupils and notes for teachers Teacher answer sheet Answer grids for pupils

European Day of Languages Mystery

Ideal for European Day of Languages or as a multi-language activity to demonstrate links between languages. A fun resource for pupils to discover links between languages whilst solving the mystery. Activities cover transport vocabulary in a variety of languages, exploring departure boards, categorising languages into language families, matching country names and an odd-one-out quiz to discover the final destination. Pupils are asked to find clues in order to help their neighbour find his brother who is somewhere in Europe. Pupils are given a scenario and a bucket list of possible locations. They then work through the activities to find clues which allow them to eliminate locations and ultimately find the destination. Some research is involved in translating vocabulary from various languages so I would recommend having devices on hand to help students. A teacher guide with instructions and answers is included, which would make the mystery an ideal cover lesson. Includes: Bucket list, pupil instructions and 5 activities Extension task: word search for early finishers Teacher guide complete with instructions and answers.
